Modes of use

There are 3 modes that the software can be started in, each tailored for a specific need. The three modes are:

  • Master mode. This mode is designed primarily for use by the Source Code Administrator. It allows access to all three file types, and provides a number of special functions. For example, merging work and translation files with the master database can only be performed in master mode. You should have at least a master file to run the software in this mode.
  • Work mode. Work mode is designed for programmers. It contains all the functions required to search the database, create and edit work files, and import messages from TCL form and menu files. However, it contains only one of the QA functions available in the master mode. You need at least a master database file and the directory where the work file can be created to run in this mode.
  • Translation mode. Translation mode is used by the people performing the translations. In this mode, you only have access to the functions required to translate english text into another language. It is a very simplified interface, and is designed to speed up the process of translating the text. You only need a translation file to run in this mode, but several more options are available if the location of a Surpac installation is supplied.
