Translators Quick Start Guide
The following is a brief outline for translators of how to quickly get the Translation Manager started, and begin translating without too many problems.
Do you require Surpac for your task?
If you think you might require Surpac or are unsure, contact Surpac R+D or the Source Code Administrator for details of where to find the most up to date version of Surpac.
Once you have downloaded Surpac, install it in the appropriate folder, e.g. C:\ssi_V5.1H_Alpha
Create a folder called C:\translations. You may choose another location, but remember that all examples given here refer to this folder.
Save any files you have been supplied with for the translation task to C:\translations, unzipping them first if required. Ensure that you do not mistakenly overwrite any files that may be present from other translation jobs.
Examine the help for starting the Translation Manager in translator mode, and determine how best to start the program according to your task. Create a shortcut for the task.
Start the Translation Manager by double-clicking on the new shortcut icon.
Click on the Paths tab and ensure that you have loaded the required resources for your task. Translation files and the location of a Surpac install (if required) can be selected using the Browse buttons next to each field.
Click the Edit Translation File tab to begin translating. Repeat the following for each message you wish to translate:
Translation KeysSelect the key of the message you wish to translate from the list. Click the Add/Edit Translation button, edit the message in the translated language box and click Save Translation when you are done.
You can also create a new translation key that did not exist previously by clicking the Add New Text Entry button.
For a more detailed explanation of these and other options available to translators, refer to the help on using the translation editor.
