Plot Insert Title Prompting Text
This function allows you to insert a place holder for text that will be prompted for each time the map is processed. This is useful as each map must have some descriptive information in the title block to aid in identifying the purpose of the map. Prompting text permits the same title block to be used but with appropriate descriptive information in the title block for each map.
Prerequisites: A title block is displayed in the Plot Sheet Setup window.
To run this function: In the Plot Sheet Setup window, choose Title Blocks > Create > Prompting text, or...
The following message is displayed.
Select the location for a prompting title block text element
Fields on the Prompting Text Element Properties form
X position, Y position
The values for the X and Y positions are obtained from the position defined by the mouse selection. These values are relative to the lower left corner of the title block. You may modify these values if they are not suitable.
Prompt
This is the text that will be presented when the map is being processed to prompt for the text that is to be placed in the title block. Some examples of typical values for the prompt are:
- Drawn by:
- Title line 1
Pen
The pen number is associated with a colour through a pen file that can be easily modified to suit your requirements.
Max. Text Length
The text that is entered in response to this prompt should generally be restricted in length so that it does not clash with other items in the title block. Enter the maximum length in centimetres that is required for this prompting text item. If the text given for this prompt is longer that the maximum, it will be truncated to fit.
Priority
Each item, line, text, symbol, etc. that is drawn on a map has a priority that is used to determine how items that clash should be drawn, or omitted. Title blocks should be designed so that there are no clashes between items within the title block. If items are placed outside the title block rectangle, pattern legends for example, it is important that they be given a priority high enough to ensure other map components do not clash them from the map.
