GEOVIA Surpac

Symbol

This function allows you to insert a special symbol from the SSI_PLOTTING: directory into the title block.

Prerequisites: A title block is displayed in the Plot Sheet Setup window.

To run this function: In the Plot Sheet Setup window, choose Title Blocks > Create > Symbol, or...

  • In the Function Chooser, type PLOT INSERT TITLE SYMBOL, and press ENTER.

The following message is displayed.

Select the location for a title block symbol element

Using the mouse, select the position required for the title block symbol item to display the SYMBOL PROPERTIES form.

Fields on the Symbol properties form

X position, Y position

The values for the X and Y positions are obtained from the position defined by the mouse selection. These values are relative to the lower left corner of the title block. You may modify these values if they are not suitable.

Symbol

Enter the name of the symbol that is to be inserted into the title block. A browser that contains a list of all symbols in the SSI_PLOTTING: directory is available as a convenience.

Pen

The pen number is associated with a colour through a pen file that can be easily modified to suit your requirements.

Priority

Each item, line, text, symbol, etc. that is drawn on a map has a priority that is used to determine how items that clash should be drawn, or omitted. Title blocks should be designed so that there are no clashes between items within the title block. If items are placed outside the title block rectangle, pattern legends for example, it is important that they be given a priority high enough to ensure other map components do not clash them from the map.

Symbol height

The height of the symbol when it is drawn on the map must be expressed in centimetres. For the symbol to appear with the correct height on the map, and to be correctly positioned, the string file that contains the symbol must have coordinate values in the range -0.5 to 0.5 for both the X and Y values.

Symbol angle

The symbol angle is expressed in decimal degrees with 0 giving a horizontally aligned symbol and 90 giving a vertically aligned symbol.

Complete the SYMBOL PROPERTIES form and choose Apply to draw the symbol in the required location in the title block.
