Pattern lookup file properties
This function allows you to graphically edit the lookup files used by Plotting and Graphical Drillhole Logs. It allows the addition, deletion and modification of the lookup values, pattern names, pen numbers and pattern scale for all values in a lookup file. In addition, it allows the output of a legend, which is output to a plot file, which can then be viewed and plotted using the standard Surpac plotting commands, or the Plot File Viewer packaged with Surpac.
To run this function: Choose Database > Edit > Pattern lookup file, or Plotting > Plotting colours > Pattern lookup file properties, or...
- In the Function Chooser, type LOOKUP FILE EDIT, and press ENTER.
Lookup files are a series of three or four values. The first is generally a geological rock code. The second value is a pattern associated with that rock code. The third is a pen number. The fourth is a pattern scale. In Plotting and Graphical Drillhole Logs, a rock code is extracted from the database, and is then matched against this lookup value. The display of this rock code is then output in the required pattern and pen. Having correct values in this lookup file is essential to getting correct data on plots. For more information on lookup files, see Entity Create.
There is a title block used for the output of legends. It is in the user.chr file, and has the title LEGE. If you want a different title block to the default, simply modify this title block. The name of the lookup file will be included as the first title line. Please note that there is no facility available to enter any title lines.
Lookup File
This is the name of the lookup file which will be used. If you are creating a new lookup file, use the new name both here and in the output file field below.
NOTE - Do not press the Create Legend button before leaving this field. If you do, the file specified in the Output file form will be cleared. Before pressing the button, make sure there are values in the scrolling region.
Output File
This is the file that the output will be written to. It may be the same as the input file name. If they are the same, the file will be overwritten.
Pattern File
Only of use if you wish to output a legend, the pattern file is the name of the file containing the patterns which will be used when creating the legend. To see a complete legend of the standard patterns in SSI_PLOTTING:patterns.ssi..
Paper Size
Again only of use when outputting a legend, this will determine the size of the paper on which the output legend plot will appear. By changing this size to match the size of your plots or graphical logs, the legend will be plotted on the same paper.
Orientation
In addition to the paper size, the orientation can be modified. This can be either landscape (long side horizontally) or portrait (long side vertically).
Output Legend
Once the values in the scrolling region are correct, simply pressing this button will output a legend for every code in the scrolling region. Please note that for accuracy, the lookup file must first be saved to disk. The file will be saved to the file specified as the output file.
The legend file created will be a plot file, and the file name will be displayed in the message window.
Code
Enter the geological code here that will match exactly a value in the database (e.g. QPY, MA etc). The values entered here may be anything, but they must match exactly with any value you wish out of the database.
Pattern
Enter the pattern name which will be used any time that the specified code is found. To use a colour fill, as opposed to a pattern fill, enter "solid" in this field.
Pen
Enter the pen number for this code / pattern pair. Several codes may have the same pattern, but use different pens to distinguish them.
Scale
Entering a pattern scale in this field will overwrite the default pattern scale defined in the plotting entity or Graphic Log definition for this particular rock code/pattern pair. The pattern scale is optional.
