Copy holes from another ring

This function allows an existing design to be copied from a string file to the current ring, maintaining relative hole positions and approximate toe spacing.

To run this function: Choose Design > Ring design > Create holes > Copy holes from another ring, or...

  • In the Function Chooser, type COPY RING, and press ENTER.

Location

The location of the Ring Design string file to load

Id Number

The id of the Ring Design string file to load

Choose Apply to copy the specified file to the current ring or Cancel to cancel the function. You may be prompted to select the drives or stopes to which the holes are to be copied.

The snap holes function can be used to extend or contract the copied holes to the nearest stope intersection for each hole.

Select drive outline '???' (ESC if not loaded)

This prompt is displayed if there are holes in the file which were drilled from a opening (named '???') which apparently has not been loaded. See below for an explanation.

Select stope outline '???' (ESC if not loaded)

This prompt is displayed if there are holes in the file which were drilled from a opening (named '???') which apparently has not been loaded.

The name of each loaded opening and stope is stored in the fourth description field of the first point of the segment. Outline names are placed in this description field when sections are taken through objects using the Centre Line Slice function (the object name is used), or when the outlines are selected in Ring Design while loading or copying holes.

If the named outline has been loaded, select the segment representing the outline. Alternatively, choose Cancel if the outline is not present.

Choosing Cancel when prompted for a drive outline causes the holes drilled from the specified drive to be ignored.

Choosing the Cancel button when prompted for a stope outline causes the holes drilled into the specified stope to be editable only if Cancel is also hit at the stope selection prompt of the New Position function:

Indicate the Stope Outlines

See New Position for further details.

The selected file has no pivot information in string 32000

Ring designs saved to string files have pivot information for the holes written to string 32000. This message implies that either these points have been deleted or the file is not a ring design string file.

The holes in the specified file are copied to the current ring by the following process:

  1. The loaded ring is rotated around a vertical axis so that the dip and dip direction of the loaded ring is the same as the current ring.
  2. The loaded ring is rotated around the strike axis so that the dip of the current and loaded rings are the same.
  3. The holes being loaded are moved so that the centroid of the drive from which the holes were drilled coincides with the drive of the same name in the current ring, or the drive selected at the prompt:
  4. Select drive outline '???' (ESC if not loaded).

The use of a drive centroid to align the copied holes maintains approximate toe spacing assuming that stope and drive outlines do not differ significantly between the ring for which the design was created and the ring to which the design is copied.
