GEOVIA Surpac

Rig position

To run this function: Choose Design > Ring design > Setup > Rig position, or...

  • In the Function Chooser, type NEW POSITION, and press ENTER.

If a design area has already been selected, you will be prompted for the names of the current drive and stope outlines with the CURRENT POSITION INFORMATION form.

Stope

The name of the current stope outline.

Drive

The name of the current drive outline.

Complete the form and choose Apply to continue. Choosing Cancel cancels the function.

If no drive has been selected, or the CURRENT POSITION INFORMATION form was applied, the New Position function will display the prompt:

Indicate the Survey Openings

Select a segment from the openings as the current opening to display the prompt:

Indicate the Stope Outlines

Select a segment from the stopes to use as the current stope. Choosing Cancel displays the HOLE LENGTH form, to allow drilling of fixed length holes without use of a stope outline.

The method used to find the floor of the survey opening is as follows:

  • Find the point with the lowest Y value
  • Move to the left of this point until X values begin increasing (this is the left extent of the floor)
  • Move to the right of the minimum Y point until X values start decreasing (this is the right extent of the floor)

Note that this method will not handle fold backs or vertical points on the floor. If you have fold backs you will have to clean up the data.

Hole length

Enter the length of the holes to be drilled and choose Apply to design fixed length holes without using a stope outline, or Cancel to re-select the current opening.

Note:Only the offset and angular toe spacing algorithms can be used in stope-less design. The offset method uses the end of the previous hole instead of the intersection of this hole with the stope to calculate the position of each hole. See DRILLING Parameters for explanation of these toe spacing methods.

After selection of a stope outline, or choosing Apply on the HOLE LENGTH form, a diagram representing the drill mast and carousel will be placed in the selected drive outline. See Edit Rig for information on defining mast and carousel dimensions.

If the carousel crosses the drive outline in this initial position, the following message is displayed in the message window:

The New Rig position would be located outside the Survey Opening

and the following prompt is displayed on the function line:

Select and rotate the drill mast

This prompt allows you to rotate the mast to an orientation which allows the mast to fit inside the drive outline. Press (ESC) if you do not want to change the orientation of the mast. After the mast has been rotated, the following prompt is displayed on the function line:

Select and drag the drill mast

This prompt allows you to move the mast to a position which allows the mast to fit inside the drive outline. Press (ESC) if you do not want to move the mast. If the mast fits entirely inside the drive, the screen will be rescaled to show the selected drive and/or opening, otherwise you will be prompted to reselect the current survey opening.

The New Rig position would be located outside the Survey Opening

The selected opening (drive) is either not wide enough or not high enough to accomodate the currently selected rig and carousel. Check the rig definition by using RIG Edit from the DRILLING menu.

The specified hole length is greater than the maximum hole length of the rig.

The hole length entered on the HOLE LENGTH form was greater than the maximum hole length specified for the current rig. Check the rig definition by using RIG Edit from the DRILLING menu, or enter a smaller hole length.

The selected drive segment is not valid as it is open.

The segment selected as the current drive outline was open. A segment must be closed to be a valid section through an opening. Select a different segment at the Indicate the Survey Openings prompt or select Edit Openings from the RING DESIGN menu and use Segment Close to close the segment.

The New Rig position would be located outside the Survey Opening

The mast cannot be positioned entirely inside the survey opening. Check the rig definition by using RIG Edit from the DRILLING menu.

The new rig position would place the pivot point outside the reach of the rig

The mast cannot be moved to the specified coordinates as the pivot would be below the minimum height, above the maximum height or outside the lateral limits specified for the rig. Check the rig definition by using RIG Edit from the DRILLING menu.
