Graphics
The large pane on the right side of the Surpac window is called Graphics. Alternatively, it is sometimes called the Graphics pane or the Graphics window. Graphics displays three dimensional data.
You can use the mouse to pan, zoom, or rotate. The axes in the lower left corner of Graphics show you the rotation.
When you drag a file from the Navigator into Graphics, you open that file. The following table shows the effect of opening the most common file types.
| File extension | Effect |
|---|---|
| .str, .dtm, .3dm | String, surface, or solid is displayed. |
| .ddb |
The database is opened.
|
| .tcl | The script runs. |
| .mdl |
The block model is opened.
|
| .dwf | The plot is opened in the Plotting window. The Plotting window displays two dimensional data. |
When you right-click in Graphics, a shortcut menu of useful commands is displayed.
Clearing Graphics, and hiding objects
To clear Graphics, click
Reset graphics on the File toolbar. You can hide or display objects selectively using the Layer manager, or the commands on the Display menu.
Saving data in Graphics
When you load a file into Graphics, you are working on a copy of that file. Any changes you make to the data displayed on the screen do not become permanent until you explicitly save the data to a file, either the original file or a new file.
Changing colours
View > Toggle 3D Background allows you to switch between two different sets of 'background and text' colours, called 2D and 3D respectively. You can use the Settings form, by choosing Customise > Default Preferences > Graphics Colours, to view or change the background colour, and text colour, for 2D and 3D.
Note: If you want more control over the presentation of objects in Graphics, use styles.
