Layer properties
This function is used to view or alter various settings about the layers that exist in the current session of Graphics.
To run this function: Choose Edit > Layer > Properties , or...
Attributes about each of the layers that you can alter:
Active Layer
Only one layer may be active at any one time for a given viewport. The GRAPHICS module may only change data or create points or segments in the active layer for the currently active viewport. If an attempt is made to modify points or segments in any layer other than the active layer an error message will be displayed and the function will fail. All GRAPHICS functions which create new points or segments will create them in the active layer.
Global Settings
By setting one of the attributes listed all layers will have the same attribute set. For example setting the Global Visibility to N turns off the visibility for all layers. If you make a mistake and incorrectly set a global setting change it back to blank before leaving that field. If you have already left that field you can cancel the form to stop any chances taking place.
Modified
Layers which have been modified have a star (*) before their name.
Layer name
Display only. The names of each of the layers in GRAPHICS are displayed.
Visibility
A layer can be made visible or invisible for the currently active viewport. If a layer is made invisible it automatically becomes unselectable and all data associated with that layer which is presently visible, is removed from the active viewport. The data still exists; it simply cannot be seen on the active viewport. If a layer which is currently invisible is made visible then all data associated with that layer which was previously drawn on any viewport will become immediately visible again.
Selectability
A layer can be made selectable or unselectable. Any layer which is invisible for the currently active viewport cannot be made selectable. Any layer which is visible may be either selectable or unselectable. If a layer is unselectable then it will not be possible to select any of the data associated with that layer until it is made selectable again.
Faces
A layer can have the visibility of faces of objects turned on or off like the faces on / faces off command but limited to the layer specified. A faces on/faces off command is able to alter the current layers setting for faces.
Edges
A layer can have the visibility of Edges of objects turned on or off like the Edges on/ Edges off command but limited to the layer specified. A Edges on/ Edges off command is able to alter the current layers setting for Edges.
Shading
A layer can have a shading type for lighting which is limited to that layer like the setting in lights on. The shading option can be none, gourand or phong. Each of which is explained in the lights on help topic.
Edge Lighting
A layer can have a edge lighting type which is limited to that layer like the setting in lights on. The edge lighting option can be on or off. Edge Lighting is explained further in the lights on help topic.
Colour Interpolation
A layer can have a colour interpolation limited to that layer like the setting Toggle Colour Interpolation. The colour interpolation option can be on or off. Colour Interpolation is explained further in the Colour Interpolation help topic.
From the Edit menu, select Layer, then Properties to invoke the function.
