String reverse

In all but a few cases, the processing modules rely on closed strings being clockwise. Occasionally, data may not be in the correct direction, for example contours digitized in the wrong direction. This function allows you to make any string file into any direction that may be required by different modules. It allows you to set the direction of a range of strings within a range of files to be clockwise, anticlockwise or a reversal of its existing direction.

To run this function: Choose File tools > Change string directions, or...

  • In the Function Chooser, type STRING DIRECTIONS, and press ENTER.

Define the strings to be turned

Location and ID range

Define a range of files, all of which are to have the same range of strings turned in the same directions.

Str range

Specify the range of strings within each file to be set to the nominated direction.

Start at segment 1 or 2

You can specify that all segments of the nominated strings be turned to the specified direction, or only the second and subsequent segments. This latter option is useful for defining `holes' in a single enclosing segment.

Retain descriptions

You may choose to retain descriptions between input and output or not.

Define direction required

Specify whether you want the strings turned Clockwise, Anticlockwise or to be a reversal of their existing direction by entering:

A Make strings anti-clockwise.
B Make strings clockwise.
C Reverse existing direction.

Result

The specified .str files are loaded into memory and the directions of the specified strings are changed as specified. The modified strings are saved back to files of the same location.
