Import Moss Genio files

Function Name :

  • IMPORT FROM MOSS

This function allows you to convert MOSS Genio files into Surpac string files. Because MOSS allows alpha-numeric string identifiers, the Surpac string numbers assigned to the translated MOSS strings start from string 1. A log file is created showing the corresponding MOSS and Surpac string identifiers.

To run this function: Choose File > Import > Moss Genio files, or...

  • In the Function Chooser, type IMPORT FROM MOSS, and press ENTER.

Define the MOSS file to be converted
Filename

Enter the complete file name of the MOSS file to be converted into a Surpac string file. You must enter the extension as well, usually `.gen'.

Descriptions

If you want to convert the MOSS string numbers and any text data, then you must enter `Y' here. The MOSS string number will then be stored in the D1 field of the resultant string file and any other text data will be stored in the D2 field. The first MOSS string in the file will be given a string number of 1 and this will be incremented by 1 for each new MOSS string. If you enter `N' here then only the coordinates will be converted into Surpac strings.

Define the string file to be created
Location

Enter the Location name of the Surpac string file to be created. A log file will also be created with the same Location and ID number but with a `.log' extension.

ID Number

Enter the ID Number of the Surpac string file to be created. A log file will also be created with the same Location and ID number but with a `.log' extension.

Result

A Surpac string file and a log file are created. The log file records the MOSS string identifiers and their corresponding Surpac string numbers.

MOSS does not have string segments, but records discontinuities in a string by indicating the start of the discontinuity with a negative X value and the end of the discontinuity with a negative Y value. In other words the last point in a segment will have a negative X value and the first point of the next segment will have a negative Y value. These discontinuities are converted to string segments in the resultant Surpac string file. Bearing discontinuities identified by a negative X and Y co-ordinate before the discontinuity are also treated as the start of a new segment.

Messages

If there is an error reading the co-ordinates in the MOSS file with the format descriptor on minor option line 001, an error message will be output to the message window and the log file detailing the line number and current string being processed. No more points on that MOSS string will be converted, and processing will continue at the next string identifier or change in minor option.
