Delete duplicate vertices

This function allows you to remove redundant points from the current graphics layer.

A redundant point for this function is if two triangles are connected to two points which are at exactly the same position. For example, point 1, which has position (100, 100, 100), is one of the vertices of triangle 1. One of the vertices of triangle 2 is point 2, which also has the position in space of (100, 100, 100).

To run this function: Choose Solids > Edit object > Delete duplicate vertices, or Solids > Edit trisolation > Delete duplicate vertices, or...

  • In the Function Chooser, type REMOVE SOLIDS DUPLICATES, and press ENTER.

This point duplication may cause warnings or errors in some solids functions. Therefore, this function will detect that point 1 and point 2 are at the same position. It will re-triangulate triangle 2, so that it's vertex is point 1, and then delete point 2. In this way, the solid will also be more efficient and faster, without affecting the shape, position, or any other factors of the solid.

This function will work for any number of triangles connected to any number of points with the same coordinates, amalgamating all points at the same coordinates into one point.

It will not, detect duplicates if the two triangles are in different objects or trisolations. It will only remove duplicates which appear in one trisolation.

Once the duplicates have been removed, the solid will need to be validated again, and then saved using the Save File function.

Note: Remove Solids Duplicates will not automatically save the file.
