Triangulate one triangle

This function allows you to create individual triangles by selecting triangle corner points.

The Triangulate One Triangle function can be used to create individual triangles where precise detail is needed or where the geometry of the 3DM to be created is extremely complex. An example of complex geometry where this function would be required is where a geological lens diverges into multiple lenses. In this example the Triangulate One Triangle function can be used to correctly model the area of divergence.

To run this function: Choose Solids > Triangulate > One triangle, or...

  • In the Function Chooser, type TRIANGULATE ONE TRIANGLE, and press ENTER.

Function

Display only. The name of the function being executed.

Layer name

Display only. The name of the active layer is displayed. The active layer is the only layer you are able to modify.

Object

Enter the object number of the 3DM to be created.

Trisolation

Enter the trisolation number of the 3DM to be created.

Complete the DEFINE THE TRISOLATION TO BE CREATED form and choose Apply to display the prompt:

Select the first point for the triangle

Position the pointer and select the first corner point for the triangle. This will display the prompt:

Select the second point for the triangle Position the pointer and select the second corner point for the triangle. This will display the prompt:

Select the third point for the triangle

Position the pointer and select the third corner point for the triangle.

Result

A triangle is created between the three selected points and the screen picture is updated accordingly.

The prompt:

Select the third point for the triangle

is re-displayed.

Selecting a subsequent point will create a second triangle between the second and third points of the first triangle and the newly selected point.

The following prompt is redisplayed:

Select the third point for the triangle

Selecting a further point will create a new triangle between the second and third points of the previously created triangle and the newly selected point.

The Triangulate One Triangle function will continue in this manner until the function is cancelled.

Warning

The point selected is not in the working layer and cannot be edited

You may only triangulate from strings which are in the active layer. You have selected a point which is not in the active layer.
