Triangulate by manually selecting points
This function allows you to triangulate between segments by manually defining the limits of triangulation.
The Triangulate Manual function gives you a high level of control when triangulating between segments while still leaving a degree of automation to the triangulation process. You are able to create 3DMs of extremely complex geometry which exactly match your geometrical interpretation of the data. You control the starting and ending points of the triangulation on a segment to segment basis.
To run this function: Choose Solids > Triangulate > By manually selecting points, or...
Note: The Triangulate Manual function can be used when the geometry of the 3DM to be created is complex and the Triangulate Control Strings function does not provide adequate definition.
Function
Display only. The name of the function being executed.
Layer name
Display only. The name of the active layer is displayed. The active layer is the only layer you are able to modify.
Object
Enter the object number of the 3DM to be created.
Trisolation
Enter the trisolation number of the 3DM to be created.
Complete the DEFINE THE TRISOLATION TO BE CREATED form and choose Apply to display the prompt:
Select the first point on the first segment to be triangulated
Position the pointer and select the triangulation starting point on the first segment. This displays the prompt:
Select the first point on the second segment to be triangulated
Position the pointer and select the triangulation starting point on the second segment. This displays the prompt:
Select the second point on the first segment to be triangulated
Position the pointer and select the triangulation ending point on the first segment. This displays the prompt:
Select the second point on the second segment to be triangulated
Position the pointer and select the triangulation ending point on the second segment.
Result
Triangles are automatically created between the segments and between the starting and ending points which were selected on the segments. The screen picture is updated accordingly. The following prompt is redisplayed:
Select the second point on the first segment to be triangulated
The function prompts for one new point on each segment. These points are used to define the new end points for triangulation. The triangulation process then continues to these newly selected end points. The screen picture is updated accordingly.
The following prompt is redisplayed:
Select the second point on the first segment to be triangulated
The Triangulate Manual function will continue until the function is cancelled.
When the Triangulate Manual function is used to create triangles between two closed strings, the function is often cancelled only once the final points selected are the same as the first points selected. In this way, the last triangle created will have an adjacent edge with the first triangle created.
Note: You may select your points in either ascending or descending order of point sequence on the segment. When the segment is closed, the triangles are formed in the direction along the segment in which the distance between the points is the least.
Warning
The point selected is not in the working layer and cannot be edited
You may only create 3DMs from strings which are in the active layer. You have selected a segment which is not in the active layer.
