Deviation analysis

You can use this function to analyse the difference between two solids or surfaces using a visual representation. This can be useful if you want to compare design and "as mined" underground drives, or determine safety boundaries when an open pit mine approaches an existing underground working.

To run this function: Choose Surfaces > Mesh tools > Deviation analysis, or Solids > Mesh tools > Deviation analysis, or...

  • In the Function Chooser, type MESH DEVIATION ANALYSIS, and press ENTER.

Deviation analysis determines the minimum distance between the vertices of one object, and the vertices of another object, and then displays the difference as a coloured "heat map". The heat map is a graded display of five colours, from the colour that represents the minimum value, to the colour that represents the maximum value. The difference between the minimum and maximum values is divided evenly between the five colours, so that each band represents a value range of the same size.

When you use this function, you choose the objects to compare by selecting them in Graphics.

Fields on the Deviation Analysis form

Field Description
Define the base object
Graphics Layer Display only. The layer that the contains the object you are comparing against.
Object ID Display only. The object number of the object you are comparing against.
Trisolation ID Display only. The trisolation number of the object you are comparing against.
Define the design object
Graphics Layer Display only. The layer that contains the object you are comparing to.
Object ID Display only. The object number of the object you are comparing to.
Trisolation ID Display only. The trisolation number of the object you are comparing to.
Minimum deviation to report The smallest value that is recognised as a difference. Values below this are treated as if the distance between the two objects is exactly this minimum distance.
Maximum deviation to report The largest value that is recognised as a difference. Values above this are treated as if the distance between the two object is exactly this maximum distance.
Result field The description field in the base object that will store the value for the difference in distance between the base and design object.
Rendering Options
Colour for smallest deviation The colour used for the smallest difference in distance. The colour range starts with this colour.
Colour for largest deviation The colour used for the largest difference in distance. The colour range ends with this colour.

Output

The coloured heat map showing the difference between the solids or surfaces is displayed in Graphics. The Legend pane becomes active and displays a legend for the values represented by the colours in the heat map.
