Delete redundant points

This function allows you to delete all unnecessary points from the current graphics layer. The function defines unnecessary points to be points that are not vertices of any triangles in any trisolation in the current graphics layer.

This function is useful in deleting the large amount of redundant points remaining when a trisolation has had its triangles filtered by the FILTER TRISOLATION Optimise function.

To run this function: Choose Solids > Edit object > Delete redundant points, or Solids > Edit trisolation > Delete redundant points, or...

  • In the Function Chooser, type CLEANUP 3DM, and press ENTER.

Note: The exception to the point deletion process is that the first and last points in a closed segment that has at least one of its points as a triangle vertex, are not deleted. This is to ensure that closed segments remain closed after the cleanup process.

Complete the CLEANUP 3DM warning form and choose Apply to perform the function.

The function updates the deletes the unnecessary points from the current graphics layer. Segments that were displayed when the function was applied will be automatically updated on the screen. This function will not alter any of the trisolations in the current graphics layer (for example you will not have to validate them again). The resultant layer is not saved to a file automatically. To do so you must save using Save File.
