Points inside / outside 3DM file

This function allows you to select or tag the points of a string file that are inside or outside a 3DM.

To run this function: Choose Solids > Solids tools > Points inside / outside a solid, or...

  • In the Function Chooser, type POINTS INSIDE / OUTSIDE 3DM FILE, and press ENTER.

The 3DM file

File name

Enter the name of the 3DM file to use to select or tag the points in a string file.

Object range

Enter the range of objects to process. To process all objects in the file, leave the range blank. The objects must be validated & closed.

Trisolation range

Enter the range of trisolations to process. To process all trisolations, leave the range blank. The trisolations must be valid.

The string files to be processed

File name

Enter the name of the string file that contains the points to be selected or tagged.

String range

Enter the range of strings to process. To process all strings in the file, leave the range blank.

Define the output file to be created

File name

Enter the name of the string file to be created from the results of this function.

Select data

Inside - The points that are inside or on the surface of the objects/trisolations used are selected or tagged in the result file.
Outside - The points that are outside the objects/trisolations used are selected or tagged in the result file.

Operation

Select - The result file contains only those points inside, or outside, the selected objects defined by the Select data option described above.
Tag - The result file contains all the points, but only those points that satisfy the inside/outside test will have the specified value written to the designated description field.

Description field

The description field where the tag value is writen.

Value to assign

The tag value that is written to the designated description field.

Flush the D-field

Selected - The existing values in the specified D-field are removed.

Cleared - The existing values in the specified D-field remain.
