Apply longitudinal profile
The apply longitudinal profile function is used to take a longitudinal profile of a road, and apply the elevations in that profile to an existing horizontal design. It is the last step in creating a working road centreline in 3 dimensions.
To run this function: Choose Design > Road design > Apply longitudinal profile, or...
You will be prompted for four mouse selections. The first is to select the viewport that contains the longitudinal profile, next to actually select the longitudinal profile. The third time you choose the viewport that contains the horizontal centreline, and then finally you choose the centreline.
After you have selected your longitudinal profile and horizontal centreline, the Apply longitudinal profile form is displayed:
Output
| Profile layer | The layer that contains the longitudinal profile |
| Profile string | The string that contains the longitudinal profile |
| Profile segment | The segment in the string that is the profile. |
| Target layer | The layer that contains our horizontal centreline |
| Target string | The string that contains our horizontal centreline |
| Target segment | The segment in the string that is the horizontal centreline |
| Use DField (D2) for chainage? | If checked, the function will use values from the D2 field in the horizontal centreline to determine where the elevations from the profile should be applied. If this is not checked, the function will just use the 2 dimensional line distance to determine the chainages for the points. |
