Entity delete
Any existing entity definition can be deleted from the library using this function.
To run this function: Choose Plotting > Entity > Delete, or...
Entity Name
Enter the name of the entities to be deleted. The entities to be deleted may be chosen from a list by selecting the browser. Wild card characters may also be used to define the entities which are to be deleted.
Valid wildcard characters are:
- ?, match any single character
- *, match any string of zero or more characters
- [..], match any single character from the enclosed set. For example [a-z] would match any character in the inclusive range 'a' to 'z'. If the first character after the initial bracket is the exclamation '!', then the effect of the range is negated. For example [!m-n] would match all characters other than 'm' and 'n'.
The wildcard characters may be combined in any combination (provided it makes sense) to define some very flexible selection criteria.
Some examples are described in the table below.
Complete the DELETE AN EXISTING ENTITY form and choose Apply to display the CONFIRM DELETION OF MAPS/ENTITIES form.
Deleting maps and entities from the library is irreversible. This form is displayed to give you the opportunity to reverse your decision before committing to the delete operation. If you are unsure of the entities which match the wildcard specifications you might like to try the wildcard specifications with the ENTITY Unload or ENTITY Report functions first as these will not alter the contents of the plotting library.
Choose Apply to delete all entities which match the wildcard specifications. Choose Cancel to return to the DELETE AN EXISTING ENTITY form to alter the list of entities to be deleted.
All entities which match the wildcard specifications are deleted from the plot library. Note that any maps which use the entities which are deleted from the library are not altered. It is possible therefore to create inconsistencies in the library using this function.
