Quick planes

You can use this function to create a group of planes.

To run this function: Choose Planes > Quick planes, or...

  • In the Function Chooser, type QUICK PLANES, and press ENTER.

Fields on the Quick Planes form

Field Description
Orientation
Orientation
  • Northing: The planes are created in a northing orientation.
  • Easting: The planes are created in an easting orientation.
  • Elevation: The planes are created horizontally.
  • Note: If you select this option, the View direction field is not available.

  • Oblique: The planes start and end points are digitised in Graphics.
  • Note: If you select this option, the Select End Points form appears.

View direction

The direction to view the plane. Options are:

  • Looking North: The planes are viewed looking north.
  • Looking South: The planes are viewed looking south.
  • Looking West: The planes are viewed looking west.
  • Looking East: The planes are viewed looking east.
Plane positions
Select the plane definition method
  • Start, end and interval: Planes are selected by specifying the start point, end point, and interval range for the planes.
  • Specific values: Planes are defined by specifying a range of plane positions.
  • Parallel: Creates infill planes between two existing planes. This option is available only if a saved plane is active and the next plane in the group is parallel with the active plane. The Quick Planes form is filled in with values that will create planes between the active plane and the next plane. You can edit these values if required, for example to change the distance between planes. When you click Apply, the new planes are created and inserted into the correct positions in the planes group.
Start The start point of the first plane.
End The end point for the last plane.
Interval between planes The interval between each plane.
Plane/Northing/Easting/Elevation range

The numeric range of plane positions.

Note: This field is available only if, in Select the Plane definition method, you selected Specific values. The name of this field depends on the value you selected in the Orientation field.

Plane corridor
Away

The distance away from the plane in the viewing direction.

Note: If, in the Select the Plane definition method, you selected the Start, end and interval option, the distance in this field defaults to half the distance entered in the Interval between planes field. You can change the default value.

Towards

The distance towards the plane in the viewing direction.

Note: If, in Select the Plane definition method, you selected the Start, end and interval option, the distance in this field defaults to half the distance entered in the Interval between planes field. You can change the default value.

2D
Snap to 2D plane view
  • Selected: The planes are displayed in 2D.
  • Cleared: The planes are displayed in 3D.
Output
Plane name suffix

Optional. The text added to the end for the name of each plane.

You can use any letters, numbers, and characters except \ / : * ? " < > | in the plane name suffix.

Also, the name cannot end with a space or a period.

Save
  • Selected: The planes group is saved permanently.
  • Cleared: The planes group is deleted at the end of the session.
Group name

The name of the folder that the planes created are stored in. The full path to the directory must be less than 256 characters.

You can use any letters, numbers, and characters except \ / : * ? " < > | in the group name. Also, the name cannot begin with a space, or end with a space or a period.

By default, the group name is set to QuickPlanes<x>, where <x> is the lowest positive integer that is not currently used in a group name.

Output

A group of planes are created according to the values entered. A single plane is active and displayed in Graphics.
