Inclined plane by dip and direction

You can use this function to create a plane using a point in your data, and a dip and dip direction.

To run this function: Choose Planes > Inclined > By dip and dip direction, or...

  • In the Function Chooser, type INCLINED PLANE BY DIP AND DIP DIRECTION, and press ENTER.

Fields on the Define Plane By Dip and Dip Direction form

Field Description
Plane origin
Northing The Y coordinate of the point you selected.
Easting The X coordinate of the point you selected.
Elevation The Z coordinate of the point you selected.
Dip
Dip angle The angle from the horizontal that you want to set for the dip. A positive value is above the horizontal, a negative value is below the horizontal.
Dip direction The direction in which you want the plane to dip. This value must be between 0 and 360.

Output

A plane is created at the dip angle above or below the horizontal at the point, in the dip direction specified.
