Expand segment by bench height
You use this function to make a copy of a selected segment and expand or contract the segment. Specifically, this function projects the segment up or down by a fixed bench height. You can use a limiting elevation as an additional control to ensure that the expanded segment does not exceed a design elevation.
Note: This function works with both open and closed segments.
Prerequisites: A segment is open in Graphics.
To run this function: Choose Design > Expand segment > By bench height, or...
When you run this function the following message is displayed:
Select the segment to be expanded
In Graphics select the string to expand.

| Bench Height |
The desired difference in elevation between benches. The bench height modifies the position of the points on the selected segment. If the Z direction is up, the bench height is added to the Z value of the points on the selected segment to give the new elevations. If the Z direction is down, the bench height is subtracted from the Z value of the points to give the new elevations.
|
| Limiting elevation | The limiting elevation restricts the elevations of the points on the new segment. If, when the bench height is added to (or subtracted from) the elevations of the points, the limiting elevation is exceeded (in the defined Z direction), the new bench height is restricted so that the limiting elevation is not exceeded. |

Output
The selected segment is copied and modified according the controlling variables described above. Any loops that form as a result of contracting portions of the segment are removed.
The string number of the new segment is the next number after the string number of the selected segment.
