Import Whittle File

Using data from a Whittle parameter file, you can create a Surpac block model containing the information from a Whittle model file.

To run this function: Choose Block model > Block model > Import > Whittle file, or...

  • In the Function Chooser, type BM IMPORT WHITTLE, and press ENTER.

After the file is read, it is a Surpac block model, that you can constrain and manipulate as a Surpac model. Make sure the parameter file contains correct information, otherwise the block model could be incorrect. The Import Whittle file form changes appearance, depending on whether you are creating a new block model, or importing into an existing block model.

Fields on the Select Whittle Model form

Field Description
Model name The name of the Whittle .mod, .res, or .msq file to import.

When you click Apply, the Import Whittle file form appears.

Fields on the Import Whittle file form

Field Description
Parameter file name The name of a correct Whittle parameter (.par) file. This file contains important information that is used to construct the Surpac block model. Such information includes the block size, block model extents and attribute (Whittle parcel) information.
Model file name

The name of an existing Surpac block model, in the same geographical location as the model you are importing, whose attributes and attribute values you will merge into the new block model. To merge the two models, the following conditions must be true:

  • The model origins must be the same, or you can offset the Whittle model by x (positive integer) blocks in any direction.
  • The block size of the blocks in the Whittle model must be identical to the block size of the blocks in the Surpac model. Alternatively, if the block size of the two models is different, each block of one model must fall entirely within a single block of the other model.
  • The Whittle model cannot extend beyond the space of the Surpac model.

If you leave this field blank, the Whittle model is imported and not merged with any existing Surpac block model.

Model description Text that describes the Surpac block model.
Bearing The rotation of the block model around the Z axis.
Reference block coordinates The X, Y, and Z coordinates of the Whittle block which becomes the lower left front corner block of the block model.
Retrieve Parcel Information Retrieving parcel information allows you to store data for each material type, element type, destination, and other Whittle parcel information as an attribute in the block model. See Input Whittle Values for more detailed information.

When you click Apply, the Input Whittle Values form is displayed to allow you to select which Whittle attributes to include.

Output

After you fill in the Input Whittle Values form, and click Apply, a Surpac block model is created and opened in Surpac.
