Underground file sections

This function creates vertical sections through a range of string files that represent underground workings.

To run this function: Choose Design > Underground tools > Underground file sections, or...

  • In the Function Chooser, type UNDERGROUND SECTIONS, and press ENTER.

Back and floor outlines must be stored in the string files which are to be sectioned. Typically, back and floor strings are created using Underground Surveying or GRAPHICS.

Specify the endpoint coordinates of a section line to define a vertical section plane. Supply a range to extract multiple sections at one time.

Note: The underground workings must be represented by closed strings.

The results of the Underground Section function will be one string file per section. The ID number of the output string file will represent the section number or range. The output string files will be in section coordinates.

Pillars are represented by closed segments with the same string number as the enclosing string but with an anticlockwise direction.

Location of back string files

Enter the location name of the range of back string files to be sectioned. The back and floor strings may be stored in the same files or in different files.

ID range

Enter the ID range of the back string files to be sectioned.

Back string range

Enter the string range of the strings that represent the backs. These should consist of closed clockwise strings which describe the drive outlines. Closed anticlockwise strings represent internal pillars.

Note: Include detail strings in the range.

Back detail string

If a detail string exists, enter the string number of the detail string for the backs of the underground workings. Wherever the section line crosses the detail string, an additional point is inserted into the section string file at the elevation of the detail string. Detail strings may be open or closed.

Location of floor string files

Enter the location name of the range of floor string files to be sectioned. The back and floor strings may be stored in the same files or in different files.

ID range

Enter the ID range of the floor string files to be sectioned.

Floor string range

Enter the range of the strings that represent the floors. Closed clockwise strings describe the drive outlines, and closed anticlockwise strings represent internal pillars.

Floor detail string

If a detail string exists, enter the string number of the detail string for the floors of the underground workings. Wherever the section line crosses the detail string, an additional point is inserted into the section string file at the elevation of the detail string. Detail strings may be open or closed.

Define the first section line

Define the first section line. This defines a vertical section plane. Vertical sections are taken parallel to this section plane at the specified range.

Extent Size

Define here the size of section extents. Extents work by creating a box around the defined section line, extended either side of the section line by this extent size. Any points on the floor, back or detail strings which fall inside this extent will be projected onto the section line, only retaining their original z value. In this way, it is possible to get a more detailed section, using the floor and back strings, as opposed to a separate detail string. Using an extent size of 0 will mean that just the points that intersect the section line will be output to the result files.

Northing of end points

Enter the northings of the end points of the first section line.

Easting of end points

Enter the eastings of the end points of the first section line.

Location of output files

Enter the location name of the output files. One output file per section is produced.

The ID number of the files produced will represent the section numbers. These will be equal to the range of sections which you specify on the TAKE SECTIONS THROUGH UNDERGROUND WORKINGS form.

Range of sections

Enter the range of sections to be produced as a valid range specifier.

For East-West sections the range which will be entered is the section Northings. For North-South sections the range which will be entered is the section Eastings. For oblique sections, the range which will be entered is the perpendicular distance from the original section specified.

The sections are generated and written to one file per section. The message window confirms the processing.
