Intersect hole with zone

Occasionally problems will occur in a blast and not all of the explosive is discharged. This creates a dangerous situation as the region in question must be drilled again and then charged and blasted. Drilling into such a region is dangerous, as it is possible for the accidental ignition of the explosive to occur if the drill rig contacts the live explosive. When such conditions exist, it is useful to know at what depth along a drill hole the dangerous conditions occur so that measures can be taken to minimise the risk.

To run this function: Choose Design > Ring design > Charging > Intersect Hole with Zone, OR Design > Ring design > Charging > Intersect Hole range with Zone, or...

  • In the Function Chooser, type INTERSECT BLAST ZONE HOLE, and press ENTER.
  • In the Function Chooser, type INTERSECT BLAST ZONE HOLES, and press ENTER.

Enter description (optional)

Each contact that occurs between the zone of interest and the selected hole will cause a point to be stored in the hole at the location of the contact. The point will have two description fields. The first description field will contain the distance from the hole collar to the point of contact. The second description field will contain the text that the user enters in this field. If left blank there will be no description stored in the contact point.

If using the range variant of the function, once the form is applied, the Enter Range of Holes form will appear to accept the range of holes to be intersected:

Enter range of holes to intersect the zone of interest

Enter the range of holes that are to be intersected with the selected zone segment. If the field is left empty, then all holes are intersected.

If not using the range variant of the function, a prompt will ask:

Select the hole to intersect with the zone of interest

Select the hole that is to be tested for contacts with the zone of interest or press ESCAPE to cancel the function.

If a hole was correctly selected, or a range of holes correctly specified, a prompt will ask:

Select the zone segment to be intersected

Select the segment that is to represent the border of the zone of interest. This segment must be closed. Once the segment is selected, the segment is intersected with any selected holes. If any contacts occur, then a message will display the number of contacts that occurred between the zone and hole for each hole selected. A point will also be added to the holes for each contact that occurred.

Further zones may be selected to perform an intersection with. If using the range variant of the function, hitting ESCAPE will exit the function, otherwise further holes can be selected for intersection after hitting ESCAPE.

Note

Functions that affect a hole's position (Move Hole, Rotate Hole and Edit Hole Length among others) will cause all contact points stored in a hole to be deleted. After using any of these functions, it is necessary to re-intersect the hole to revalidate the depth at which contacts occur.

Errors

Selected Zone segment is not closed. Select a closed segment.

Error: The segment representing the border of the zone of interest is not a closed segment. To close the segment, select Close from the Segment submenu in the Edit menu.
