Create holes between two holes
This function allows you to drill between two selected cardinal holes.
To run this function: Choose Design > Ring design > Create holes > Between two holes, or...
Indicate the first hole. Press (ESC) to quit
Select an existing hole to display the prompt:
Indicate the next hole. Press (ESC) to quit
Select a different hole which was drilled with the same pivot position as the first to display the NUMBER OF ITERATIONS form.
Enter the number of iterations that should be made to attempt to fit holes between the selected holes.
Number of iterations
Enter the number of iterations for which Cardinal Holes will attempt to improve the toe spacing between the last hole and the second cardinal hole.
The Cardinal Holes function will drill as many holes as will fit between the two selected cardinal holes. Each time the holes are drilled, the closing toe spacing between the last hole and the second cardinal hole is measured. If the spacing is within the specified tolerance (see DRILLING Parameters), the Cardinal Holes function will accept the generated drill holes. Otherwise, the function attempts to calculate a toe spacing which will give a better fit between the cardinal holes. The function continues to adjust the toe spacing until the closing toe spacing is within the specified tolerance or the specified number of iterations has been used.
Specifying a single iteration causes Cardinal Holes to drill as many holes as will fit between the two cardinal holes at the current toe spacing. The spacing between the last of these newly drilled holes and the second cardinal hole is only guaranteed to be less than the specified toe spacing.
After this process is complete, over- or under-drill is added to the new holes and they are checked for break-through (see DRILLING Parameters).
Cannot fit holes between Cardinal Holes.
The selected holes are not widely spaced enough to allow for any holes to be drilled between them. The specified toe spacing may be too large (see DRILLING Parameters) or the holes may be too closely spaced.
The selected holes have different pivot points.
The second selected hole was drilled from a different position than the first selected hole. Select two holes with the same pivot position.
This function requires 2 existing holes.
The cardinal holes function requires the selection of two pre-existing holes as cardinal holes. Use Start to drill these two holes prior to using Cardinal Holes.
An opening has not been selected.
The hole drilling functions require that a drive has been selected to drill holes from. Choose Rig Position or Move Mast to select a drive opening to drill from.
The same hole has been selected twice.
The same hole was selected as both the first and last cardinal hole. Reselect the second hole.
The new toe spacing isX.
The recalculated toe spacing for the latest iteration is X.
The maximum number of X iterations has been used.
The specified number of iterations has been used without a closing toe within the specified tolerance (see DRILLING Parameters). Increase the number of iterations or the tolerance.
The toe spacing for the second cardinal hole from holelast_holeisX.
The closing toe may be slightly different from the toe spacing used for the other holes drilled in this function, so it is reported by this message. This value will be within the specified tolerance of the previously reported toe spacing.
The New Rig position would be located outside the Survey Opening
Warning message indicating that the mast cannot be rotated to one of the intermediate hole positions and remain in the survey opening.
Adding overdrill to new holes
The specified amount of over- or under- drill is being added to the new holes.
HoleXwould breakthrough an opening and has been shortened.
The named hole passes within the specified Break-through Tolerance (see DRILLING Parameters) of an opening.
The collar position of the new hole is too close to an existing hole.
An attempt was made to drill a hole with a collar position that was within the specified Minimum Collar Distance of an existing hole (see DRILLING Parameters). Reduce the minimum collar distance or delete the hole causing the problem.
