Save all layers as

You use this function to save the contents of all layers into separate files. This function accompanies the IMPORT CAD function that allows you to import all of the layers of your CAD file as separate Surpac layers. You can save the layers to the original directory, or you can specify a new directory. You can also choose to save the styles files associated with each layer. You can save using the layer names, or rename the files to save.

To run this function: Choose File > Save > Save all layers as , or...

  • In the Function Chooser, type SAVE ALL LAYERS AS, and press ENTER.
Field Description
Output Format Type This box lists the available file formats.
Output directory option
  • to the original directory: the files are saved to the same directory that they were loaded from.
  • to a specific directory: files are saved to the directory specified regardless of where they were loaded from. This is only applicable when saving in a Surpac format type.
Override output directory The directory that you want to save the files in, if it is different to the directory you loaded the files from.

  • Text: The data in the file is saved as ASCII text. You can read files of this format in a text editor. Data is stored to three decimal places.
  • Binary: The data in the file is saved in binary format. If you choose this format, the file size will be much smaller than for text format. Data is stored to six decimal places.

  • Selected: Solids are validated before they are saved.
  • Cleared: Solids are not validated when they are saved. To make sure that the solid is not validated before saving, you must clear both this check box and the Force rigid backwards compatibility check box.

  • Selected: Ensures that the saved file can be used in previous versions of Surpac.
  • Cleared: Does not force the file to meet the requirements to be compatible with previous versions of Surpac.
File overwrite options
  • Overwrite all files: New files are saved with the same name, in the same location as existing files with no notification.
  • Warn on overwrite: A confirmation prompt is displayed for any file that is set to save with the same name, in the same location, as an existing file.

Output

The data in the layers is written to the specified files. The data written to the files depends on the output format type chosen.

Note: Some plugins may filter the data, that is, some data may not be saved to the file. This is because file formats vary in the type of data that they can store.
