Point offset from baseline

This function allows you to determine the perpendicular offset of a selected point from two other selected points which define a line.

To run this function: Choose Inquire > Point offset from baseline, or...

  • In the Function Chooser, type POINT OFFSET, and press ENTER.

Select baseline start point

Position the pointer and select the point which is to be used as the start of the baseline.

At the prompt:

Select baseline end point

Position the pointer and select the point which is to be used as the base line end point.

At the prompt:

Select the offset point

Position the pointer and select the point which is to have its offset from the selected line determined.

The Point Offset function will continue until the Cancel button is pressed.

Selection of the points displays the results in the message window. The data displayed includes; the point numbers selected and the offset and chainage data. The offset is a negative if the selected offset point is to the left of the line and positive if it is to the right of the line. The chainage is the distance along the line from the baseline start to the point of the perpendicular offset to the point of interest.

The results are displayed as shown below:

Baseline: From point 17, to point 63, Offset point 72
Chainage = 43.328, Offset=9.732
