Underground panel layout

This function can be used to create segments which represent the main headings and crosscut roadways of an underground Room and Pillar mine layout.

To run this function: Choose Design > Underground tools > Underground panel layout, or...

  • In the Function Chooser, type UNDERGROUND PANEL DESIGN, and press ENTER.

The panel layout which is created may have as many main headings and crosscuts as required. Furthermore, the crosscuts may be aligned at any angle to the main headings.

The following prompt is displayed:

Select the panel centre line start point

Use the mouse to select a point which is at the position where the central main heading roadway for the panel is to begin. The UNDERGROUND PANEL DESIGN form will be displayed after this point has been selected.

Define the main headings

String Number

Enter the string number which will be used for the segments which are created to represent the centre lines of the main headings. Each main heading is represented by a distinct segment.

Number of headings to left

Enter the number of headings which are to be created to the left of the central heading. Each heading created to the left of the central heading is parallel to the central heading and offset by the Roadway spacing . The direction of left is determined by standing at the selected point and looking along the direction defined by the Bearing of heading.

Number of headings to right

Enter the number of headings which are to be created to the right of the central heading. Each heading created to the right of the central heading is parallel to the central heading and offset by the Roadway spacing . The direction of right is determined by standing at the selected point and looking along the direction defined by the Bearing of heading.

Bearing of heading

Enter the bearing for the central heading. Any headings created to the left and right of the central heading will be parallel to the central heading. If you have selected DEGREES as your Angle units, the bearing must be entered in DDD.MMSS format, otherwise it must be entered in GRADS.

Length of heading

Enter the length of the main headings. All main headings will be the same length.

Roadway spacing

Enter the spacing to determine how far apart the main headings to the left and right of the central heading will be created. If you create 3 headings to the left of the central heading, the third heading to the left will be 3 times this distance away from, and parallel to the central heading.

Define the crosscuts

Crosscut string

Enter the string number which will be used for the segments which are created to represent the centre lines of the crosscut roadways. Each crosscut roadway is represented by a distinct segment.

Angle to main heading (left)

It is not uncommon for Room and Pillar layouts to be created such that the main headings and crosscuts are not perpendicular to each other. This parameter permits any alignment of the crosscuts with respect to the main headings to be possible.

If you require a panel layout where the crosscuts are perpendicular to the main headings, enter a value of:

The angle must be entered in DDD.MMSS format if you have selected DEGREES as your Angle units.

If you require some other alignment, enter the relevant angle. The angle is measured to the left of the main headings while looking along the direction of the main headings.

Angle to main heading (right)

Enter the angle to the right of the main headings to determine the alignment of the crosscuts to the right of the central heading with respect to the direction of the main headings.

If you require a panel layout where the crosscuts are perpendicular to the main headings, enter a value of:

The angle must be entered in DDD.MMSS format if you have selected DEGREES as your Angle units.

Crosscut spacing

Enter the distance between the parallel crosscut roadways. This distance is always measured along the direction of the main headings, even if the crosscuts are not perpendicular to the main headings.

Complete the UNDERGROUND PANEL DESIGN form and choose apply to create the segments representing the main headings and crosscut roadways.
