Save to stream control

You can use this command to create a HOOPS streaming file (HSF) that shows an interactive 3D view of all the data displayed in all layers in Graphics. The background colour shown in Graphics, and the scale, are preserved in the HSF file. You can share the HSF file by embedding it in a Web page, presentation, or Microsoft Word file. A common use of the HSF file is to embed it in a slide show presentation to demonstrate a mine plan.

To run this function: Choose File > Save to Stream Control, or...

  • In the Function Chooser, type EXPORT INTERCHANGE FORMAT, and press ENTER.

The HSF format allows you to display, rotate, print, or perform other operations to the 3D data using a variety of applications. For more information about viewing HSF files see How to create and view streaming files or the Streaming Files tutorial.

Tip: If you choose to create a HTML file when using this command, you can put the 3D data (HSF file) and the HTML file on any Web server so anyone can view the page.

Note: If you are using a Web browser to view the 3D data, you might be prompted to install an ActiveX component. To view the data, you must install the free ActiveX component.

All applications that support ActiveX components can use the free viewer to display and transfer data in the same way. However, the method used to add the component to a document differs depending on the application. Applications that support ActiveX include Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint and other Microsoft Office products.

Notes:

  • The GEOVIA Stream Control is 32-bit, and so you need 32-bit Microsoft Office to open streaming files in Word or PowerPoint..
  • There are no plug-ins to run the GEOVIA Stream Control in Web browsers other than Internet Explorer. However, on computers running on a Windows platform, you can use IE Tab, which uses Internet Explorer within a session of Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome.

Fields on the Export HOOPS Interchange Format form

Field Description
Filename

The name of the file.

Note: If you use a name that is a full path, or a relative path (that is, not in the current working folder), and then send the HTML file and HSF file to someone else, that person might have trouble opening the file. The HTML file contains the name of the HSF file, so if you save the HSF file with path information, you must retain the same folder structure, or you must manually modify the path information in the HTML file.

Generate HTML page?

This option lets you create an HTML file so that you can view the HSF file using a Web browser.

  • Selected: Creates both HSF and HTML files.
  • Cleared: Only creates the HSF file.

The HSF file is embedded in the HTML file.

Note: This feature might not be supported by all Web browsers. Also, the security settings for your browser might prevent you from viewing the HSF file.

Page Title The HTML page title that appears at the top of the HTML page.
Description of scene A description of the scene or other information. This text appears in the HTML page below the page title.
Width of preview area The width in pixels of the area, within the Web page, that displays the HSF file.
Height of preview area The height in pixels of the area, within the Web page, that displays the HSF file.

Output

An HSF file is created and saved. If you chose to generate an HTML file, the HTML file is also saved.
