Set slope gradient

You use this function to view or alter the design gradient which is used to determine the elevation (Zvalue) of new points or segments that you create with various Graphics functions.

To run this function: Choose Design > Pit design > Set slope gradient, or...

  • In the Function Chooser, type DESIGN GRADE, and press ENTER.

Note: The current design grade is displayed on the Status Bar .

Fields on the Set the design gradient form

Field Description
Units

The units for design grade. The default value for this field is taken from the grade units specified in the defaults.ssi file.

The units must be one of:

  • angle, for a gradient of the form `X degrees' or `X grads'
  • percentage, for a gradient of the form `X%'
  • ratio, for a gradient of the form `1 in X'
Gradient

The design gradient. The value is expressed in the units from the Units field above. The value can be positive or negative. Negative values represent a downhill gradient, while positive values represent an uphill gradient. The current value of the design gradient is displayed as the default value.

Note: Values of a ratio of 1 in 0, an angle of 90 degrees or 100 grads are not allowed. Conversion from a gradient of 0%, degrees or grads to a finite ratio is not possible.

Angle units The unit of measure for the angle.
angle

Display Only. The equivalent angle to the value in the gradient field.

percentage

Display Only. The equivalent percentage to the value in the gradient field.

ratio 1 in

Display Only. The equivalent ratio to the value in the gradient field.

Output

The design gradient is set to the grade you specified. When you clear Graphics or close Surpac the design grade is reset to the grade units specified in the defaults.ssi file.
