Condense colouring

This function toggles an attribute known as Colour Index Interpolation from on to off. The default state for this attribute is on. The Colour Index Interpolation attribute only has relevance for DTMs which have been drawn with the DRAW SHELLS function. This function and the TOGGLE COLOUR INTERPOLATION function determine the presentation style of DTMs when false colouring of triangles is used with the DRAW SHELLS function.

To run this function: Choose Solids > Display > Condense colouring, or...

  • In the Function Chooser, type TOGGLE COLOUR INDEX INTERPOLATION, and press ENTER.

The DRAW SHELLS function draws a DTM so that you can have different colours associated with different attribute values from the DTM. The most common example of this is where contour bands (that is the Z field) are drawn in different colours.

With the Colour Interpolation attribute on, the colours at each triangle vertex are determined by associating a numeric colour value with a colour map (a list of colour names). The numerical colour values, that is the colour indexes will often be fractional values. When the Colour Index Interpolation attribute is on the colours to be used for drawing are determined using the colour indexes rather than the default colour for the object.

If Colour Index Interpolation is off then the object is drawn in the colour specified via the SET OBJECT STYLES function.

See the following table for a description of the possible combinations of Colour Interpolation and Colour Index Interpolation and a description of the results.
