Layer clean

The feature to clean. Options are:

• Closure: Ensures all segments are open or closed.
• Cross-overs: Cleans cross-overs, which are points where either a segment crosses itself or two different segments cross.
• Duplicate Point: Cleans duplicate points, which are points that lie within a specified trap distance of another point.
• Duplicate Segment: Cleans duplicate segments, which are segments that have the same number of points, and where each point in the first segment is within the trap distance of the corresponding point in the second segment.
• Minimum Area: Cleans the minimum area required for closed segments.
• Minimum Points: Cleans segments with less than the specified number of points.
• Spikes: Cleans spikes.

Note: Not all of the fields in this table are available for each function.

The action to take for the function chosen. With the exception of the Closure function, the options available are to mark, warn, or remove. The effect of these actions for each function is described as follows:

Crossovers

• Mark. The locations of cross-overs are marked with a triangle.
• Warn. A message is displayed in the message window giving the position of each cross-over.
• Remove. Not available

Duplicate Point

• Mark. The locations of duplicate points are marked with a hash (#) symbol.
• Warn. A message is displayed in the message window giving the position of each duplicate point.
• Remove. Duplicate points are removed.

Duplicate segment

• Mark. The locations of duplicate segments are marked with a circle.
• Warn. Not available
• Remove. Duplicate segments are removed.

Minimum area

• Mark. The locations of segments with less than the minimum area are marked with a square at their first point.
• Warn. A message is displayed in the message window giving the position of each segment that contains less than the minimum area.
• Remove. Segments that contain less than the minimum area are removed.

Minimum points

• Mark. The locations of segments with less than the minimum number of points are marked with a diamond.
• Warn. A message is displayed in the message window giving the position of each segment that contains less than the minimum number of points.
• Remove. Segments that contain less than the minimum number of points are removed.

Spikes

• Mark. The locations of spikes are marked with a circle.
• Warn. A message is displayed in the message window giving the position of each spike.
• Remove. Spikes are removed.

For the Closure function, options are:

• allow all: Segments are not modified.
• close all: All open segments are closed.
• delete open: All open segments are deleted.
• open all: All closed segments are opened.

The target data level for the function. Options are:

• Layer: String numbers are not considered when the function is run.
• String: Cross-overs, duplicate points, or duplicate segments must be in the same string.
• Segment: Cross-overs or duplicate points must be in the same segment.

Note: Not all targets are available for all functions.

The type of cross-over to test for.

• breakline: The selected action is performed for cross-overs where lines intersect, but not where lines meet at a point.
• all: The selected action is performed for all cross-overs.

Note: This field is available only if you selected Cross-overs for the Function.

The distance between points below which the points are not considered duplicate.

Note: This field is available only if you selected Duplicate point for the Function.

The distance between points above which points are not considered duplicate.

Note: This field is available only if you selected Duplicate point for the Function.

The distance below which segments are considered duplicate.

Note: This field is available only if you selected Duplicate segment for the Function.

The area contained by a segment, below which the action will be applied to the segment.

• absolute: Anti‑clockwise segments are treated as clockwise segments for the area calculation. That is, all areas are considered positive values.
• signed: Anti‑clockwise segments have negative area and clockwise segments have positive area. If you enter a value of zero or greater, all anti‑clockwise segments are acted on by the function.

Note: This field is available only if you selected Minimum area for the Function.

The number of points in a segment below which the action is applied to the segment.

Note: This field is available only if you selected Minimum points for the Function.

The angle below which an extrusion is considered a spike.

Note: This field is available only if you selected Spikes for the Function.

The dimension used to measure the distance and angles for functions that rely on distance or angle.

• 2D space: Uses the horizontal distance and angle between points.
• 3D space: Uses the slope angle as well as the horizontal distance and angle between points.

The reference plane to use when testing the data for cross-overs, duplicate points, duplicate segments, minimum area, and spikes. Options are:

• The XY plane: The function is performed in Plan view.
• The active plane: The function is performed in the current viewing plane in Graphics.
• The best-fit plane: The function is performed in the viewing plane that best fits the data in the current layer.

• Selected: After the function is run the plane in Graphics becomes the best-fit plane for the data in the current layer.
• Cleared: The plane in Graphics is not changed.

Note: This check box is available only if you selected The best-fit plane as the Plane to use.
