Saving Datamine block models

In Surpac, you can save a Datamine model back to Datamine format, allowing seamless integration between Surpac and Datamine. However, Datamine currently has a strict maximum limit on the number of attributes that you can save to the file. If you load a Datamine model in Surpac, and then create attributes, it is quite possible to exceed this limit. If this happens, you have two options:

  • Remove attributes until the number of attributes is below the limit:
  • Save the file to a free block model format: The problem with this method is that even though Surpac will see the new file as a Datamine file and process it accordingly, you will be unable to open the file in Datamine. If you remove attributes until you are below the limit, then you will again be able to save the model in a format acceptable for Datamine, so saving to this extended format is not an irreversible step.

If you try to save a Datamine block model which goes over the allowable 'number of attributes' limit, the Unable to Save to a Datamine Format form is displayed.

Fields on the Unable to Save to Datamine Format form

Field Description
Calculated attributes as Implicit attributes
  • Selected: The calculated attributes are saved as implicit attributes. This saves the calculation expression. Surpac reads each of these attributes in Surpac as calculated attributes. These attributes are ignored by Datamine.
  • Cleared: The calculated attributes are saved as explicit attributes. This saves the value of the calculation. Each of these attributes are read by both Surpac and Datamine as standard numeric attributes.

Note: Whether you save calculated attributes as implicit or explicit attributes can significantly change the number of Datamine "words" in the model.

Attribute The attributes that exist in the block model.
Explicit Numeric attributes.
Implicit Attributes that are described by a mathematical expression.
Include
  • Selected: The attribute is saved in the block model file.
  • Cleared: The attribute is not saved in the block model file.
Words used by mandatory fields The number of Datamine "words" used by the mandatory attribute fields.
Maximum words allowed by Datamine The maximum number of "words" a Datamine file can support for the attributes.
Current number of words in use The number of "words" currently used by your block model attributes.
